Dear parents and carers,

As we approach the end of the year, I would like to remind our community of our communication practices at La Perouse Public School, which is in line with the Department of Education School Community Charter. The School Community Charter outlines the responsibilities of parents, carers, educators and school staff in NSW public schools to ensure our learning environments are collaborative, supportive and cohesive.

Communicating with Parents and Carers.

Weekly – each Friday afternoon, teachers send an overview of the week ahead.

Please do not use this App to communicated with anyone other than your child’s teachers.

SchoolStream App

For publishing events, dates and distribution of information and notes. Parents can also use this app to report explanations for absences and changes to contact details.

Updating the community on school wide matters and events and celebrating learning at LPPS.

For celebrating and publicising events and sharing community information.

Parent’s may send an email to the school email account [email protected] .

The office staff will forward these to teachers, so that they can reply in person, by phone or through ClassDojo.

WhatsApp Groups

Class WhatsApp groups are set up by parents and therefore not monitored by the school. In order for parents to feel confident and safe with using this platform, you must not contact other parents outside the App unless this is something mutually are agreed upon beforehand. In saying that though, with all school related issues, it is very important that you contact the school first.

We try to respond within 24-48 hours. If it is a matter that takes longer to solve, teachers will let parents know that the message has been received and will get back to them as soon as possible.

Please note our guidelines for staff:

  • The use of personal mobile phone to contact parents is not recommended or supported, except in the event of an emergency, in which case phones will be on No Caller ID.
  • The use of personal DoE email to communicate with parents is not recommended or supported.
  • Staff are bound by a Code of Conduct and have Duty of Care, which can mean they only have a 30 minute break to eat or go to the bathroom. The use of phones during lessons should only be for school purposes. For example using school WhatsApp groups to communicate medical or operational information.

If you have a concern it is best to contact the school first, via the channels described above, to make an appointment or communicate with us.
We will aim to get back to you within 48 hours but may not check emails over the weekend for obvious reasons.
If it is urgent please call the school between the hours of 8.30am and 3pm. We will arrange for someone to cover the staff member so that they can call you back.

We thank you for your patience at this very busy time of year.

Kind regards,

Lisa Haller | Principal
